Integreat was formally established in September 2023 and consists of approximately 100 people, including researchers ranging from master’s students to professors, as well as a group of administrative staff. At the University of Oslo, researchers are affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine (Institute of Basic Medical Sciences and the Oslo Centre for Biostatistics and Epidemiology), the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (Department of Mathematics and Department of Informatics), and the Faculty of Humanities (Department of Philosophy, Classics, History of Art and Ideas). At UiT-The Arctic University of Norway, researchers are based in the Department of Physics and Technology within the Faculty of Science and Technology. A group of researchers is also affiliated with The Norwegian Computing Centre, which is the third key partner of Integreat.
Leadership and management
Integreat is led by a group of co-directors. This group functions as the executive board of the centre. Together with the administrative leader, the management team ensures the effective operation and strategic direction of the centre. The board of Integreat is chaired by the dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of UiO. The deputy chair is the dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology of UiT. Other members of the board include the CEO of the Norwegian Computing Centre (NR), the head of the Department of Mathematics, the head of Department of Informatics, and the head of the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences.
Integreat is supported by administrative and technical staff across all partnering institutions, assisting with procurement, finance, HR, and communication.
Integreat’s research is organised into numerous interconnected Research Themes (RTs), each addressing specific methods and challenges in knowledge-driven machine learning. These themes align with the centre’s four overarching objectives, ensuring a comprehensive and interdisciplinary approach to advancing the field. Each RT is guided by a team of Principal Investigators (PIs), who steer scientific direction and oversee research progress. Integreat’s research follows a project-based approach, with each RT encompassing projects that align with its overarching mission. Additionally, projects are connected to multiple RTs.
Scientific Advisory Committee
The Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) plays a crucial role in advising on research strategy that leads to scientific excellence. Composed of leading international experts in machine learning, statistics, logic, and language technology, the SAC provides independent advice on the centre’s research directions, methodologies, international visibility and impact, providing perspectives on emerging trends and challenges in ML.

Integreat young researchers' forum (INTREF)
The Integreat young researchers’ forum (INTREF) is the organisation of the PhD and postdoctoral fellows at Integreat. It is led by the elected INTREF Fellows Committee, which represents the interests of its members. The committee consists of four representatives, and is supported by the INTREF coordinator and by the Integreat Administrative leader.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion committee
This committee consists of the co-directors, Integreat Administrative leader, and Integreat’s inclusion officer PhD Fellow Elisabeth Maria Griesbauer (as of 2025). It leads advocacy efforts to foster an inclusive environment for all identity groups, promoting diversity policies, organising seminars and events, Pride month, and collaborating with relevant stakeholders to support an equitable and welcoming research community.
