Academic interests

I am a philosopher of science with a background in philosophy of technology and applied ethics. My work is interdisciplinary, drawing on philosophy of science in practice methodologies. I am based at Integreat, the Norwegian Center for Knowledge-Driven Machine Learning, and affiliated with the Center for Philosophy and the Sciences (CPS) in the Department of Philosophy (IFIKK).

My interest in science and technology is driven by the Imaginaire —the visions that guide these fields and their connection to social imagination, especially when these visions take their first steps into situated reality and create new ethical dilemmas and uncertainties. My current work bridges AI epistemology and ethics (as part of the ethics research theme team ). Through case studies on synthetic data and algorithmic bias, I investigate how emerging machine learning methodologies affect knowledge production, social justice, and shape values in science—contributing to the development of trustworthy AI.

Background

In my PhD dissertation, I have used the philosophy of medicine as a platform to explore the relationships between scientific and technological developments and social and epistemic injustice. My research on holism and pluralism in medicine has addressed the question of how extensively one can and should understand medicine, as well as its range of responsibility and epistemic scope. I investigated the relations between scientific reductionism driven by technological advancement, and social inclusivity, through questions of epistemic injustice. I have examined initiatives such as personalized medicine and One Health medicine, both fueled by the advancement of big data technologies and the increasing use of AI.
