Title

Reasoning under uncertainty with subjective logic

Abstract

Many situations require decisions to be made with limited knowledge. Subjective logic is a formalism for reasoning and decision making under uncertainty. Subjective logic can be used for intelligence analysis and for trust reasoning. Subjective logic is also widely used for representing uncertainty in ML. This seminar presents the theory of subjective logic and applications of reasoning under uncertainty.

Bio

Audun Jøsang is professor of cybersecurity at the University of Oslo, as well as adjunct professor at QUT in Australia. Prof. Jøsang is known for his research on trust and reputation systems in digital environments, such as online marketplaces and social media.

One of Jøsang's key contributions is the development of Subjective Logic, a mathematical framework for reasoning under uncertainty, which has applications in areas like risk assessment, decision-making, artificial intelligence, and the analysis of trust in social networks. This work is widely used in both academia and industry.

Prof. Jøsang has an MSc in Information Security from Royal Holloway College, University of London, and an MSc in Telecommunications from NTNU where he also obtained his PhD. Books authored by Prof. Jøsang are Subjective Logic: A Formalism for Reasoning Under Uncertainty, and Cybersecurity: Technology and Governance.
