Description
In our next meeting, we will discuss the article "Trust and Trustworthiness in AI” (2025) by Juan Manuel Durán and Giorgia Pozzi. While the concepts of trust and trustworthiness are widely used in AI ethics, it is not clear what they entail. The article reviews and discusses the different definitions of concepts of trust and trustworthiness in AI. The article begins with a discussion of interpersonal accounts of trust, understood as reliance plus some “extra factor”. The authors apply both parts of the definition to AI systems and analyze them, considering their possibilities and limitations.
Postdoctoral Fellow Virginia Conde Ruiz (Department of Psychology) at UiO will open the session with a short introduction to the article, outlining its main arguments.
Participants are strongly encouraged to read the article in advance and to come prepared with questions, comments, and critical reflections, as the session is intended to be discussion-driven.
